Genre Research Uncle Drew

Like our movie Love and Basketball, the movie Uncle Drew is very similar. They both share the same genre of sports. The elements involved in this movie includes competition modes, victory and loss conditions, player roles, and setting. The movie is about the old age school of basketball schooling the new age school of basketball through street ball. A lot of young player now and days think they know everything and figure that the game originated from the older players. The camera angles  in the movie ranged from eye level to low level. Low level was more used to get close ups in the basketball game and eye level was more used for dialogue in the movie. The movie movement mostly consists of pan and tracking shot for the training and NBA games of the main character. The shots would sometimes be close-up but to view the outside court game, it would have to be a long and wide shot. Sounds in the movie was diegetic sound because it was sounds you can actually hear. For example, the basketball dribbling, the crowd going wild, and the whistles blowing. The other sounds included that of dialogue or conversation. Costumes included jerseys for the games and casual clothes, nothing formal. Make-up was very essential to this movie. The movie included many different NBA all-star that put on make-up to disguise as old people. It helped with the overall message that older people can still hoop too. The setting usually took place in a a van for most of the traveling and on the outside court. The main prop and object of the whole movie was the basketball of course. The acting differed with the actors. The old people were very manipulative because they would act like they can't play so that people would judge them and want to take advantage of them. When they did, they would pull of their craziest stunts and win the game. Other actors in the movie were very judgmental of the older players and almost always doubted them because they were old. Until, the older crew taught them a lesson. The lighting of the movie was both dull and bright. Sometimes the tournaments would take place during the day time, and sometimes at night.
