Genre research #2

For the other two genres I want to pick is horror and romantic. First with horror the common camera angles may include: high angle, close up, tilted, now angle, hand held, point of view. Now many of the costumes used are very basic except for the villain. For example recent movie IT wear "it" is in this over the top clown fit with every detail cream evil. For the lighting the may use uplighting, backlighting and spotlighting. These forms of lightings create the horror movie feeling the best. For the actors is usually people who can act like they are fearing for their life. Then they have the heroic one and of course the villain. The villain takes a special person who can strike fear and truly become what the director wants.
Now the makeup may change except for the fact there will be blood, blood is one of the biggest type of makeup used. They also have their stranded makeup for the actors. however the makeup of the villain is never the same between movies as each movie has a different villain. Props can be based on the movie and not constant across the horror movie genre. Setting will also follow this however it all may be different every location greats this feeling. A feeling that only be captured by dark tunnel or poorly light street. For editing they use all of fading into dark then faded into a gloomy place and jump cuts. The jump cut is usually the scare part of the film. One common element is to make audience feel the movie, create a sense a reality. Creaking doors, foot steps, wolf howling, owls hooting, bats, echoes voices, storm are sounds used in horror along with suspended chords on a piano to create dissonance(suspense). Now element I like is the reality of horror movies they try and create and at the same time I don't like at the same time.
Now for romantic they use many of the same things just in different ways. They may have a villain but they are not some monster but a dude who just isn't nice. they may use make the brighten the faces of the actors two make a happy feel. The angles stay the same but instead to show fear or death but to show pain or an uplifting moment. The props are going to be flowers, ring, necklaces and other nice things. The setting will never be in a dark tunnel but a glowing high school hallway. The editing may use jump cuts but they usually faded to create smooth and peaceful transitions. Now in romantic the element I don't like is the touchy feely moments cause I'm not a fan for stuff like that. Now my favorite is the underdog moments were the guys nobody thinks gets the girl and rides into the sunset.

genre research powerpoint

So for our first project in this class we did research on a genre of our choice. My group and I choice dance. So this including any movie based around dancing. We went over the lighting and every thing that makes up the genre. So we had an understanding how much goes into making a movie like that. It was eye opening to see how different they do stuff in the film industry just based on the fact that dancing is involved. The way take shots and the different angles that make dancing so captivating.

Welcome back

I know it’s been awhile but in case you forgot I’m Zach the greatest of all time. So now we are doing our final project and once again with Taylor. Honestly we have so well this year it only made sense to work with her again. Through we have done some great things from the commercial and the music video. And if I’m going to be truthful Taylor has been a big help this year. I fell if I got paired with anyone else I would have the same results. I fell this way because she keeps me in check. I say this because I love to have fun and be loose. But sometimes that isn’t always the best thing for work productivity.
So now that this is the final project I have to use everything I learned this year. Over the course of this year we have gone over many things that help us make our projects easier. The different types of sounds that are used in the field. My group haven’t used the different types of sound to the fullest but we still had the basic sounds. Along with sound we went over editing which is a major part of this class. Next was camera angles and movements for example a pan shot, tilt, high angle and many more. This come into play creating the visual affect for anything we do in this class. Lastly is Miss-En-Scence which is costumes, lighting, acting, make-up, props, setting. So this last part is anything truly sees. Yes they can see the angle change but they won’t pay any mind to it.
However they will look closely at the different costumes being used. How are the actors doing. Were is this movie taking place. Now that was the every we learned so far. Now I have three movies to pitch, the movies are love and basketball, it follows, and Hobbs and Shaw. For love and basketball we look at a couple who’s love is tested but held together because of their love of basketball. Now It Follows a dark entente stocks anyone who bares the curse and will continue to follow until you meet your doom. Finally Hobbs and Shaw to and unlikely people join forces for the protection of the world in a high action packed thriller you don’t won’t to miss

Final project blog

Last time we spoke, I introduced three different different pitches from three different movies. One from Love and Basketball, one from It Follows, and one from Hobbs and Shaw. The three we chose were three good movies, however; we have to narrow to down to the final two. The two we decided to go with was It Follows and Love and Basketball. We decided to eliminate Hobbs and Shaw because the intro to that movie was a split screen. I don't know how to do nor think I'm advanced enough to operated a split screen film. It was also a routine type of intro. By routine I mean both the characters in the beginning wake up, brush their teeth, get dress, make their breakfast, hop in their cars and go on with their daily life. This type of intro is something my teacher wanted me to avoided. I felt like the other two were most exciting and suspenseful, which is our movie goal.
Love and Basketball is a very famous movie. It has reached the audience of more than just athletes but people of all interest. You can watch it anytime of Netflix. The message behind the movie goes deeper than sports. It’s more about love life but through a sport. It shows us how true love never vanishes. No matter the time or distance. The intro of the movie shows how young kids develop a relationship and it got stronger throughout the years. The intro is intersecting because it calls out an social issue with gender inequality saying how girls don’t play basketball. However, at the end that statement was false after seeing the girl main character skills.
The movie It Follows however, was chosen because it very suspenseful. In the beginning it started out with a girl run and looking back as if she is running away from something. This catching the audience eye because ofc we want to see what she is running away from. The sound in the beginning is what gave it away that it was a scary movie. Also at the end of the intro, one girl was found dead at the beach. That same girl that was running away. How she died and who killed her was a mystery. A mystery that would keep people wanting to see more. That’s why it was for sure one of our top picks. We wanted people to be left with a cliff hanger.
After discussing with my partner we have decided that our movie film we be ... drum roll please ...... LOVE AND BASKETBALL ;) !
